Hello world, this is me, Lin

Hey friends, I’m Lindsay, or just call me Lin.  Welcome to my first blog post. I’m excited, nervous, anxious and really hoping you will get something great from this in the future.  If I can help one person do something better, achieve a goal, learn something new, or just love themselves more, then it is worth it!  Hopefully we can find our 4ever healthy lifestyles together.

First, I am a wife going on 10 years, mom (8 y/o son) and step-mom (20 and 24 y/o sons). I’m still learning how to navigate all these areas, sometimes successfully, sometimes not so much.  As a family we love to travel, play and watch sports, and play games.

For my career, I have been a Registered Dietitian for the past 12 and something years.  Eleven of those years were in 3 different WIC clinics (Women, Infants and Children program) in the Kansas City area teaching nutrition and such to low-income families.  I learned a whole lot about myself in those 11 years.  I have a lot of empathy, I probably needed a degree in psychology, I’m passionate about wellness and I love when I’m able to help someone succeed.  Oh, and I’m not cut out to manage people…me and conflict, drama, and employee action plans do not go well together.

I love nutrition and I’m very passionate about it but sometimes I wish I’d gone into a different field. I have struggled with my weight most of my life (though, not why I went into dietetics).  I often feel like I should look different, eat different and be different because I’m a dietitian. Who wants to take nutrition advice from someone who doesn’t look like they follow it themselves, right?  I know it’s all in my head but it can wreak havoc on some self-esteem, let me tell you! Why am I telling you all this?  Because I’m a real person too and this is who I am, definitely not perfect. I’ve been through it and I most likely know how you feel.

Hospital Hill Half Marathon 2016

Hospital Hill Half Marathon 2016

I am kind of a fitness junkie. I grew up playing competitive volleyball and am still able to play weekly with some friends. Running was my bag for a while and I now just run occasionally.  Like, I was totally obsessed with running.  I am a very competitive person so I always wanted to run better, faster, and farther. I’ve run 4 half marathons, some 10Ks and lots of 5Ks. Running always had a way of making me feel good about myself.

About 2 years ago when I was burnt out on running and struggling with weight again, I found a local fitness studio that offers group classes. You know, loud jams, sweat dripping and a bunch of chicks kicking ass. I was so scared to go to my first class. I was sure I wouldn’t be able to do it and I didn’t look like a lot of the other girls there but something made me take the leap and I’m glad I did. I can honestly say I’m in the best physical shape I’ve ever been in.

This is me in a nutshell. I’m sure there will be more tidbits along the way. I started this blog to have a place to share my passion as well as my trials and triumphs to finding my 4ever healthy lifestyle. I hope to learn more about you all as well. I welcome your feedback any time and feel free to share topics you’d like me to include.

Here’s to being 4ever healthy!
